Who Can Give Advice?

Let’s talk about giving advice. I’ve heard many times that as a single woman, you should never give advice to a married woman. I’ve also heard that a woman without children shouldn’t speak into the life of a woman who has kids. But wisdom isn’t limited to titles, seasons, or life status. Wisdom is about discernment both in how it’s given and how it’s received.

In this generation, we’ve seen married women give harmful advice and women with children give advice that leads people astray just as we’ve seen single women give wisdom that brings peace, clarity, and growth. Advice should not be dismissed simply because of who it comes from.

When we look at the Bible, many of the men who taught wisdom including wisdom about marriage were single. The Apostle Paul spoke extensively about marriage, singleness, and how husbands and wives should treat one another (1 Corinthians 7, Ephesians 5), yet Scripture strongly suggests he was unmarried. Paul taught about love, sacrifice, and order in marriage not from personal experience as a husband, but from revelation, wisdom, and intimacy with God.

Jesus Himself taught about marriage, divorce, faithfulness, and covenant (Matthew 19), yet He was never married. His authority did not come from experience alone it came from truth. Solomon, who wrote Proverbs and Song of Solomon, gave wisdom on relationships, love, and family life. While Solomon was married, much of the wisdom he shared came from observation, discernment, and learning showing that wisdom is not only about what you live through, but what you understand.

Wisdom does not come only from experience. It comes from maturity. It comes from knowing God. It comes from understanding people and learning how to live with them well. Wisdom also comes from watching others learning from their mistakes so you don’t repeat what already failed.

There are single women who give good advice and single women who give bad advice. There are married women who give good advice and married women who give bad advice. What matters is not status, but fruit. Who are you surrounded by? Do their words bring peace, accountability, and growth or confusion and pride?

Wisdom is not owned by a category of people. Wisdom belongs to God, and He gives it to those who seek Him.
